How Often Should You Update Your Website?

Your website is your business’s face. Not literally, although it’s a good idea to have photos of you and your team there for all to see, as it lends your business an air of friendly approachability. But in terms of what the customer sees, it’s just as important as you greeting them if they were to walk into a brick-and-mortar shop or office.

So, just like a friendly face, your website needs to be warm, welcoming, and up-to-date. But how often should you freshen up your website to keep it engaging and effective?

The need for regular website updates

How often you update your website really depends on a few different factors. These include your particular business goals, the sector you’re working in, and the type of content you have on your site. However, although these should all be factored in, there are some general time frames you can start working on to get you up and running.

Real-time updates

Some things just can’t wait, so you’ll need to make those updates and changes as soon as you can. Once you know something has to change (pricing or news updates, for example), get on with the job, otherwise you might find you’re lagging behind.

Weekly blog posts

Content is crucial. That’s why we have professional content partners who can write excellent SEO-friendly blogs and site content for our clients. Blog posts like this can help to ensure that your site gets ranked higher by Google, so the more often you publish them, the better those results are likely to be.

Monthly updates

For aspects of your website like security updates and anything that optimises performance, monthly updates are a good idea. You can do it more often than that if you want to, but ‘at least monthly’ is definitely something to add to your to-do list.

Quarterly revamps

Every three months, you might want to revisit your website’s design and layout. When you do this, it means you can make any necessary adjustments to keep it in line with the latest design trends and your customers’ preferences. Make sure you do the necessary research to find out what those preferences are.

Biannual overhauls

Now we’re really getting to the nitty gritty of things. This is a big job, which is why it’s probably something you’ll only want to do a couple of times a year; it’s a whole content audit. This is the time to update your product descriptions or perhaps remove some old blog posts. Update them if they’re no longer quite right but still contain useful information. By the end, your website should be accurate, relevant, and useful for your customers.

Yearly redesign

No one wants a stale website, so once a year you may want to refresh the whole thing, top to bottom. That might mean starting from scratch, or it could just mean changing the look or layout – the choice is yours. We’ll be there to help you decide – just ask!

At Fifteen Three Digital, we’re ready, willing and able to ensure your website is always at its best and completely up to date. All you have to do is get in contact, and we can get started.
